Home Makeover and Parades

VICTORIA DAY
We decided to take in the May-Day parade in Fort Langley! It was perfect weather for it, not too hot, and not too cold. It's been 7 years since we've been there, so it was a good thing we went. We went with Dave and Leona and kids.... and I think that the kids thoroughly enjoyed it too. :-) My favourite? The Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill team. Both Leona and I were thoroughly impressed with them!

Just a few shots of the many different participants in the parade. Danielle's favourite? The dogs of course! We enjoyed the free hotdog lunch provided by the Free Evangelical Church there on Glover. After that Martin and the kids went swimming at the Walnut Grove pool, while I did some photocopying at Staples for my prenatal classes this week. Then we headed home to prepare for a bbq dinner at Dave and Leona's.

At 5 pm though, a few of us checked this out:

This house, just down the street from us, was selected by the AOK Extreme Home repair team from the Aldergrove 7th Day Adventist Church! For the last two weeks, there has been an abundance of extra vehicles up and down our street, sometimes making it difficult for us to manouver! The family - Karen W and her 3 children, lived in a home with a large number of problems, and as a single mom, she needed the help. Well, they got the help! Today was the day of the unveiling. The family had spent time in Whistler, and was coming home today. And just like the "Extreme Makeover" TV show, they had a bus blocking the their home when they got home.

You can see the crowds here who had gathered to welcome her home. Family, friends, the 7th Day Adventist Church people, and many sponsors too. CTV was there filming the event. On our street in little Aldergrove! The blonde lady in the black is Karen ....she's waiting for her oldest daughter (who does not live at home) to drive down the street. The house is "behind" the bus.

The above picture shows the guys who headed up the project. And of course, the newly renovated home!! From what I understand, they gutted the inside. New floors, new paint, new appliances, new furniture, new accessories .....the whole 9 yards! We were all invited to view the inside (20 people at a time), but we had to head to Leona and Dave's for a bbq. (it was Leona, myself, Alanna and Katelyn who watched). Who knows? Maybe we made it on TV!

And this is the video of the crowd cheering "MOVE THAT BUS!" VERY fun to be part of that!!!

All in all, a very fun and exciting day!

  1. Sounds like a lovely day - yes, the police drill team is the best part of that parade! We throughly enjoyed it too.
Our church so should do this make over thing for someone in our community - that would be a fantastic idea! Of course once our church building is finished!

  2. Sounds like you had a wonderful time! You can really tell from the picture that there is a real bond between the kids! I love that the Seventh Day Adventist Church does a makeover every year for a family and from what I heard, there is no pressure for the family who is getting the repairs done to come to their church or anything. It is done with no strings attached. So glad there are people willing to help like that. Have a great week, Nicole.
